The "Invisible Safety Net" of Crane Work: How Polyethylene Outrigger Pads Prevent Ground Collapse
Concentrated outrigger pressure on the ground is a common source of crane accidents — subsidence, cracking and even tipping can happen in an instant. Polyethylene outrigger pads were created precisely to solve this: molded from engineering plastics such as HDPE or UHMWPE, the pad is placed under each outrigger to spread tens of tonnes of concentrated load over a large ground area, preventing foundation settlement, pavement damage and equipment overturning. Manufacturer test data shows single pads typically handle from 20 tonnes to over 200 tonnes, and even under overload they "bend rather than break," providing reliable safety margin for lifting operations. From truck cranes and boom trucks to concrete pump trucks, polyethylene outrigger pads have become standard safety equipment for heavy machinery.
